What’s the difference between Log Out and Sign Out? [ASK MR. NOOBIE]

Ask Mr. NoobieQUESTION: An instructor for a class I took told me to always log out of websites where I have to put in a username and password, especially if I am on a public computer. But sometimes I can’t find the option to log out. Sometimes it says sign out. What’s the difference between these? – Susan from Tallahassee, Florida

ANSWER: You’d think they would come up with a common language for computer terms wouldn’t you? Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. For example, Facebook uses the words Log Out. Gmail on the other hand uses Sign out.

Rest assured, regardless of the words used, log out and sign out mean (and do) the exact same thing. Use either with the confidence that it is doing exactly what your instructor told you to do.
