There’s no doubt that user-submitted online reviews have a big impact on people’s purchasing decisions. The real question is whether or not you can trust the reviews you read.
I was just teaching a class the other day where I explained how I evaluate which app to download on to my smartphone when I’m presented with a dozen or so like apps after performing a search. My strategy is two-fold. First, I look for apps with mainly 4-star or 5-star ratings. Then, I look to see how many people represent that rating.
For example, if I see a 5-star rating but it is only based on 12 people’s reviews, I likely won’t download the app. But if I see a 4.5-star rating based on 1,540 people’s reviews, I have more faith that the app is probably worth checking out.
User Reviews are the King
The following infographic is geared mainly towards businesses but I thought you all might enjoy reading the statistics presented in the infographic anyway. I think you’ll be amazed just how powerful online reviews really are.
