Keeping your apps secure is a must. So for this article, we’ll be giving you tips on how to keep your WhatsApp account secure.
8 Ways to Secure Your WhatsApp Account
Why Do You Need to Keep Your WhatsApp Account Secure?
Like any other App where we send videos, calls, or messages, there is always a risk of getting hacked. And WhatsApp isn’t free from that threat. Hackers are always finding ways and means to get a quick buck or just for the fun of it.
Another reason is to keep those messages from prying eyes or hands from people around you with bad intentions,
Regardless, as the saying goes, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
What Are The WhatsApp Privacy Settings?
The settings you initially see in WhatsApp are Last Seen, Profile Photo, About, Status, Groups, Read Receipts, Live Location, Blocked Contacts, Fingerprint lock.
The first five allow you to filter who can see what. Read receipts, so the sender won’t know you read the message. The rest are pretty self-explanatory.
Other Tips to Keep Your WhatsApp Account Secure
1. Two-Step Verification
Simply enabling 2-step verification on your WhatsApp account can mean a whole new difference between being hacked or getting peace of mind. Once you get that activated, the app will require you, or anyone for that matter, to input the verification code every time you activate your account on a new device.
Just go into Settings >Account >Two Step Verification.
2. Disable Chat Backup and Enable Disappearing Messages
Disabling chat backup and disappearing messages are ways to keep your account secure from hackers. Imagine having all those sensitive conversations with valuable data in your WhatsApp account only to be fished out one by one by hackers or someone you know. Disappearing messages will remove messages after seven days. Disabling chat backup well disables your chats and leaves no chat trails behind.
3. Log Out WhatsApp Web
WhatsApp Web is an excellent avenue of sending and receiving messages using your computer. However, it is also a straightforward portal for would-be hackers to access your account.
If you use this app on various computers via Linked Devices, make sure to log out of those devices you no longer use. Better yet, limit the devices you use it on.
4. Verify Security Codes
WhatsApp has its own unique end-to-end 60-digit security code for each person you’re calling or chatting with. This means only those two persons can read or listen to what you send, and no one in between.
You can verify with that person if the codes are the same by comparing them in person when you see each other, scan the code or share it on a separate messaging app. This way, you will know if your line is 100% secure.
5. Enable Security Notifications
You’ll be alerted if the verification code changes, followed by privacy. Now there are valid grounds for a code change. For example, if the individual with whom you’re communicating reinstalls WhatsApp or updates their phone.
In addition, getting alerted when this happens helps you double-check that the cause is legit and not the result of your friend’s account being hacked.
6. Lock Screen Previews
Other than online privacy, you can also choose to extend that to the people around you. For example, you may deactivate previews in WhatsApp’s notification settings by heading to settings, then notifications. When you disable previews, you reduce the possibility of someone reading your messages accidentally when you receive a notification on your lock screen. Once disabled, all they’ll ever see afterward is who the message is from.

7. Screen Lock
Screen Lock requires Face ID to open your WhatsApp account independently. With screen lock empowered, regardless of whether somebody was to gain access on your mobile phone, they will not have the option to open your WhatsApp account.
8. Deactivate Read Receipts
Let’s face it; there are times when you read a message and don’t feel like responding right away. Turning off read receipts answers a slew of issues, such as why you read the message but didn’t bother to reply.
There are just so many ways to keep your WhatsApp account secure. Of course, it depends on what level you want it to be. So take that step now and have that peace of mind knowing if anyone tries to access your account. They will have to go through hell and fire to get it. Plus, you will always be in the know with those security notifications.
