How to make your happy birthday wishes really stand out

Over the weekend, I celebrated my 39th birthday. Amongst the very cool gifts I received from my family (like Wii Sports Resort), I also received some very creative online birthday wishes.

Some of you emailed your birthday wishes to me. Some sent me eCards. Some of you wished me happy birthday on Facebook. Others on Twitter and Plaxo.

But one particular birthday wish really stood out to me. And for several reasons. The first is that it was a personal video wishing me happy birthday. The second is that the person who made the video lives in Sweden and I have never met him face-to-face.

The person I am referring to is Jon B Alfredsson and he is one of my friends I met on Facebook. I have not had a lot of previous communication with Jon on Facebook but after watching the video he made for me, I feel like I’ve known him for years.

I wish I could share the video right here on my blog but I was unable to find the link or embed code necessary to do so. But since the video is short and concise, I thought some of you might enjoy a simple screenshot of the video along with the transcript of what Jon said in the video.

Jon B Alfredsson Facebook video Happy Birthday Patric

Hello, hello Patric. Dr. Jon here from Sweden. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday here from Sweden. And I hope you are having a great day and enjoying yourself. Here in Sweden it’s raining so I hope you have better weather than me. But anyway, I wish you a great, great day and we keep in touch. Buh-bye.

This is really cool idea.  Thank you for sharing it with me.

A personal video would stand out in my mind, too.  By the way, happy belated birthday (no video from me—it would make me seem like a copycat).  ;-)

@Janet – I wouldn’t call you a copycat. I welcome any video that is wishing me happy birthday :)
