Learn How To Delete a Skype Account With These Steps
Step 1: Sign Into Your Account
Most people have Skype running on multiple devices. You may have an active app on your phone, on your tablet or iPad, or on your desktop. First, make sure you’re logged into the account you want to delete. To make the process easier, log in with your account on a web browser.
Step 2: Cancel All Subscriptions
Before going to the closure page, you’ll have to cancel all the subscriptions linked to your Skype account. To cancel your subscriptions, log into the Microsoft website using your Skype login information.
Once there, go to Services and Subscription on the Microsoft website. Click Cancel for each one in the paid subscription list. If you have auto-charge activated, you will have to disable this feature before closing your Skype account entirely.
Step 3: Save Important Files and Contacts
Once your account is closed completely, you won’t be able to access any files or contacts you’ve saved in Skype or Microsoft. Before closing your account, email important contacts, photos, videos, and files to your backup email. You can also transfer your important files to cloud storage.
Step 4: Use Up Your Skype Credit Balance
Make sure you use all of your Skype credit balance before closing the account entirely. Once the deletion is finalized, you won’t be able to get it back. If you enabled an automatic top-up to your account whenever your balance reaches a certain amount, you must disable that as well. Otherwise, you will continue being charged for 30 days until the account is completely closed.
Now you know how to delete a Skype account without getting continuously charged for your subscriptions.
Step 5: Go to the Account Closure Page
You must log into the Microsoft account associated with your Skype. Go to the accounts closure page on Microsoft using your Skype login information. You will be prompted to verify your identity through text or email.
Step 6: Clarify Your Reason for Closure
Now that you’ve backed up your files and ended your subscriptions, you will be asked for the reason why you are closing the account. Click on all the boxes for the reminders, then choose your reason from the drop-down below the list.
Step 7: Close Your Account
Once you’ve finalized your reason, click on the Mark Account For Closure button. Remember, doing so will give you a leeway of 30 days to change your mind. After 30 days, the account will be deleted entirely.
If you do change your mind before the 30 days are up, simply log into the account and cancel the closure.
