QUESTION: Can you tell me how to turn off text message notifications from Facebook? I have the Facebook app installed on my phone and every time someone likes or comments on something I get a Facebook notification and a text message. I only want the Facebook ones. – Deb B. from Indianapolis
ANSWER: As you have already discovered, Deb, Facebook text message notifications are outdated. They made sense before everyone and their brother had a smartphone and the Facebook app but now there is really no need for them.
To disable them, log in to your Facebook account and click the gear icon near the top right of the page. When the menu appears, click Account Settings.
Next, look to the left of the page and select Notifications.
Under the heading How You Get Notifications you will see an entry labeled Text Message. To the right of this you will see whether text notifications are turned on or off. In your case, they will be on. Keep looking to the right and you will see and Edit link. Click that link.
When you do this a new section will appear listing all of your text notification options. If you want to turn off all text notifications, just click the Off option near the top of the section and then click the Save Changes button. That’s all there is to it!
It’s worth pointing out that you do have other options besides turning off all text notifications. You can choose to receive them only on comments on your status updates and timeline posts, friend requests and confirmations and/or everything else. You can also restrict notifications to friends only or specify a quiet time when you don’t receive any notifications. Finally, you can disable text notifications when you are already using Facebook.
