1. Changing Password On Gmail

Step 1: Sign In to Your Account

It’s always a good idea to change your email password regularly so as to limit the chances of your account getting hacked. Cyber crimes like hacking and phishing have become more sophisticated and your first defense will start with a strong password. In order to do this, you have to sign in to your account.

If you’re using a desktop or a laptop, open the Gmail website on your browser. Log-in using your username and current password. Once you’ve logged in, you can configure your account and password.

Go directly to Settings or the gear-looking picture near the upper right area of the page.

From there, click on “Settings,” then pick out “Accounts and Import” tab from the list of options on the Settings page. You will then see the “Change Password” option.

You will be prompted to enter your existing password, then your new one.

Confirm your new password by typing it again.

Step 3: Sign In Again

Once you’ve saved the changes you made to your settings, log in again using your new password. Make sure you remember this new one as well.

2. Changing Password on Android

Step 1: Go To Account Settings

You usually need a Google account to set up your Android device. If you want to change your Gmail password on Android, go to your phone’s “Settings.” From there, tap on “Accounts” to open the list of running Gmail accounts on your phone. Look for Google and tap to open. For Samsung users, you can find the Google settings in the “Applications” section of your phone.

In the Google account setting, tap on “Sign & Security,” then “Change Password.” After you input your current password, you’ll be prompted to type and confirm your new one.

After setting your new password, you’ll have to log in again using your new password. Make sure you remember your new code to avoid future hassles.

If you have a hard time opening your Google account on your phone, try using Google’s Security page. You can access this either on a laptop or mobile browser. As with the previous instructions, you must log in.

Step 2: Edit Password Details

Once you’re logged in, click on “Signing In To Google” which can be found in the “Sign-in & Security” section. You’ll see your password details here. It will also indicate the last time you changed your password.

After that, you’ll have to enter and confirm the new password you’re going to use.

Step 3: Sign In Again

Once you’ve saved your new details, you will be asked to log in again. You can choose to autosave your password or continue to log in by retyping it in Google’s sign-in page.

4. Resetting A Forgotten Password

Step 1: Go To Google Security Page

Of course there are moments when you completely forget about certain things. If you forgot your Gmail password, you can reset it by going to the “Google Security” page. That is if you set it up beforehand, it’s advisable as soon as you open the account. When you’re routed to that page, you can input your email or phone number.

Step 2: Remember Previous Passwords

If you do remember one or two of your previous passwords, it will make the reset process a lot easier. You just have to type it in the password box.

Step 3: Answer The Security Question

If you can’t remember any of your previous passwords, click on “Try A Different Question” found below the password box. You will need to answer certain questions or verify your account using several security questions to help unlock your account. Some of these questions include getting a text or call on your linked Android device, receiving an email on your recovery email address, etc.

Step 4: Create New Password

After verifying your identity, you can change your password right away. Remember to use words, numbers, and symbols to make your password strong and not easily hackable.
