1. In Your Gmail Account, Click on the Tile Icon
You’ll find the icon composed of nine squares in the upper right-hand corner of your Gmail account screen. Here, you’ll find icons for different Google services associated with your account.
2. Choose “My Account”
This is the part of your Gmail which controls the settings for most of the services associated with your account. Aside from deleting your email account, you can also check your security settings here.
3. Go to “Account Preferences”
Account preferences contains the settings you’ll need to access to delete your Gmail account. You can likewise check your Google Drive storage, Language, and manage your Accessibility settings as well.
4. Click on “Delete Your Account or Services”
The Delete your account or services link is the last one in this section. You will need to click this to initiate the deletion process.
5. Choose “Delete Products”
Aside from being able to delete your email account, you can also delete some associated services on this screen.
6. Go for the Gmail Account You Want to Remove
You’ll be shown the Gmail accounts linked to your email account. Look for the one you want to delete and click it.
7. You Will Be Asked to Enter the Account’s Password
To make sure that no third party is deleting your Gmail account, Google will ask for the password for the account in question. Provide the password so the process can begin.
8. Hit “Next” and Click the Trashcan Next to Gmail
You’ll see a trash can icon beside Gmail. Click on it to trash your account.
9. Click on the Download Data link to Download All Your Messages
Somewhere along the way, you will be given a chance to download all your messages in the account you are deleting. Click on the link just in case you need one of those emails in the future. You will see the Google Takeout service which will help you to save your messages.
10. Give an Alternate Account to Sign In
You will then need to exit your Gmail account and continue working on its deletion from another account. Google may also sign you into an alternate account automatically.
11. Hit Send Verification Email
You will need to verify your intent to delete the account through a verification email sent to your alternate account. This is to make sure you really want to delete your account. You can take this opportunity to consider what you are losing when the account is gone.
12. Open the Email from Google and Click the Deletion Link
Once you’re sure you want to go through with deleting the account, open the email and click on the deletion link.
13. Confirm and Delete Gmail and Then You’re Done
Lastly, you will be asked to confirm your decision. Just delete Gmail and then click “Done.” After several hoops, you are finally free of the Gmail account.
