Every one of us can recite our home address backwards and forwards. It’s the same format for everyone (at least here in the United States). Street name, city, state, zip.
But what if someone told you their address was “decide.nature.select”? What would you do with that information?
Well, believe it or not, this 3-word address style is a real thing, and it can narrow down someone’s location to 3 square meters anywhere on the planet. I learned about this when I stumbled across a TED Talk by Chris Sheldrick titled, “A precise, three-word address for every place on earth”. I’m embedding the video below and I highly recommend watching it. It’s just over five minutes long so it won’t take a lot of your time.

Figure out your own 3-word location
If you are interested in what your 3-word location is – or should I say one of your 3-word locations is – head over to the What3Words map. You can search your location the way you know it and then see on the bottom of the map what the associated 3-word location is. If you live in a larger home, you’ll have dozens of them.
Imagine being able to give a location that not only gives someone your home location but tells them specifically where in your back yard you are standing.
Oh, and for those interested, “decide.nature.select” is somewhere inside Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the Indianapolis Colts.
