In Love It or Leave It, Mr. Noobie® reviews a new technology product and covers why you may love it and why you may leave it. Not every technology product works for every person which is why we encourage you to make your own decision by checking “love it” or “leave it” at the end of this article.
What is it?
Just like it sounds, the iPad Mini is a miniature version of the iPad. Although not an exact clone of its bigger brother, it essentially operates exactly the same as the now-larger iPad.
Why you should love it
The most obvious reason for most people to love the iPad Mini is the price. The starting model for the iPad Mini (16 GB, Wi-Fi only) is $329. That’s $170 cheaper than the equivalent not-mini iPad.
The smaller size of the iPad Mini is a big attraction to some who may find it difficult to comfortably hold the larger 10″ iPad in their hands. At 7.87″ the iPad Mini is a perfect compromise between a larger-sized tablet and a smaller-sized smartphone.
Because the iPad Mini is running the same operating system (iOS) as the iPhone and full-sized iPad, the interface will be immediately familiar to anyone who already owns one of these devices.
Why you should leave it
The iPad Mini is missing a few features people have become accustomed to from its big brother like the Retina display, a 5 megapixel camera and 1080p video recording. If these features are important to you, you might want to explore some other tablets.
Even though the price of the iPad is significantly cheaper than the full-blown iPad, it is still overpriced when compared to its chief competitors like the Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7. Further, tablets like the Nexus 7 have a much faster processor, offer better video and already support up and coming technologies like near-field communication (NFC).
Of course, the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 run the Android operating system (or some form of it in the case of the Kindle Fire HD) which for some people means it’s just “not an iPad.”
You’ve read the facts. You’ve heard reasons to love the iPad Mini and reasons to leave it. What’s it going to be for you? Are you going to love it or leave it?
