You can have it all: photo printing, copying, scanning and fax

  • Posted: September 28, 2007  Topics: Printers

Q: I need a new printer. Is there one that is good for printing pictures and for copying/printing?

A: There are several printer manufacturers that offer printers that can not only print photo quality pictures, but can also copy, scan and even fax.

I don’t have a clear cut favorite in this market but I can tell you that Canon has become a very popular choice with many of Noobie’s customers over the past few months. If you are interested in Canon, you should look into their PIXMA “MP” series printers, such as the Canon PIXMA MP530 or the Canon PIXMA MP810.

Other popular brands are Epson, HP and Brother. All of these offer comparable all-in-one photo printers which should meet your needs. Be prepared, however, to shell out around $200 for a photo printer with additional copy, scan and fax features.

Other things you may want to consider when making your purchasing decision is how many individual ink cartridges the printer uses. Many new printers offer separate color cartridges rather than a 3-in-1 color cartridge which can really save you a lot of money in the long run.

And lastly you may want to look into whether or not the printer has a built-in LCD screen for previewing pictures before you print. And if you’re in to printing your digital pictures directly to your printer, look for a printer that can read your camera’s memory card.

  • Patric,

I wanted to pass along a great “noobie” device we’ve been having success with at My Health Care Manager. Namely the Presto Printer. you can see a bit more about it and read a blog at http://myhealthcaremanager.compendiumblog.com/blog.php/tools-for-eldercare.

The device is super simple - you plug in to an electric outlet, plug in to a phone line and then use a special service to send send email to anyone with a Presto. This great for grandparent who may otherwise shun technology. You send and email and it prints at grandma’s text and pictures no hassle.
