Wireless presenters eliminate presentation buzzkill

Q: What do they call those things that advance slides remotely with PowerPoint presentations? - Ronnie from Edinburgh, Indiana

A: The device you are inquiring about is known as a wireless presenter and they come in various shapes and sizes. But they all basically do the same thing—allow you to remotely control your PowerPoint presentation.

For those of you who have presented on stage before using PowerPoint slides, you know it's a major buzzkill to have to walk over to your laptop or computer to advance to the next slide.

The wireless presenter solves this timing dilemma. It comes in two parts. The first part is a wireless receiver that plugs in to your USB port of your laptop or computer. The second part is a remote control you hold in the palm of your hand during your presentation.

Kensington Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer and 1 GB Built-in Memory

The wireless presenter pictured above (the most popular current model sold on Amazon.com) has four buttons. The left and right buttons are used to go to the previous slide or advance to the next slide respectively. The bottom button is used to stop the presentation and the top button is used for the laser pointer.

Like I said, wireless presenters come in all shapes and sizes. Not all of them include a laser pointer but some people find this a nice-to-have feature when trying to point something specific out on a slide.

Another nice feature with this particular model is the 1 GB built-in memory which allows you to store your PowerPoint presentation right on the wireless receiver.
