What’s your 411?

Someone recently asked me, given a person’s name, what the best way is to find out that person’s mailing address using the Internet. I wish I had a one-stop shop answer for his question but I don’t.

There are several sites on the Internet for looking up someone’s address but your results may be varied and your success is definitely not guaranteed. Furthermore, many of these sites now tease you by letting you know they have the information you are looking for but the only way to get it is to whip out your credit card. So without further ado, here is a short list of sites for looking up a person’s mailing address:

One last thing you might want to try that has become very popular these days is to do a Google search on the person’s name. If you do this, make sure to put quotation marks around the person’s full name such as “John Doe”. Otherwise, if you just type John Doe without the quotation marks, you may get search results that match on just John or just Doe. Still too many search results? Try adding the city, this time outside of the quotation marks such as “John Doe” Indianapolis.
