What technologies would YOU like to see?

I recently posted the following on Twitter and Facebook and it stirred up some fun conversation:

My son just tried to rewind the tv program he was watching in our hotel room. Told me it didn't work. Glad our home DVR hasn't spoiled him.

Some people admitted to trying to do this themselves, others chimed in and said they wish they could rewind a live radio feed.

My first thought was how cool it would be to rewind a live radio feed. My second thought was how come I've never thought of that before?

It's your turn

Many of you have told me how much you enjoy my Technology I'd Like to See (TILTS) posts but I've never really asked you, my readers, what technology YOU would like to see.

To get your brain jump-started, here are a few of my recent TILTS posts. See if any of them spark your own thoughts and then leave a comment below with a technology you'd like to see. Who knows? I might even write about it in a future blog post. If I do, I promise to give you full credit for the idea.

TILTS: Online airline reservation changes

TILTS: Rain sensor for your convertible

TILTS: Next generation soccer practice fields

TILTS: Portable TiVo for your car

TILTS: Remote kill switch for video games

TILTS: Next generation fireworks

TILTS: Businesses that remember to remind me

TILTS: Social marathons

  • TILTS would be something that gets a teenager to clean up his room....and your family would use it eventually, too!

And the remote kill switch for the video game can either be on a modem or using a circuit breaker....depending.

  • @grnwdmom - If you invent something to get a teenager to clean up his room you’ll be a millionaire!

  • grrr… I didn’t type the validation text correctly and didn’t ctrl-c before clicking “submit”
    anyways…
I really should start writing things down as I think of them, as I know there have been some TILTS I’ve come up with that I’ve since forgot.
Just the other day I was thinking that ALL TVs should have a built-in IR-extender.  They all have IR recivers built in, right?  so why not have some “IR OUT” ports on the back where you can connect a little IR emitter/transmitter/etc device that gets stuck to your AV equipment (that is sitting hidden in a nice cabinet… or mounted directly behind the 40” LCD you just mounted to the wall)

anyways, if I think of any more TILTS I’ll try to write it down and send it your way… maybe some TILTS-builder will come along, read your blog and surprise us all!

  • Oh, also I mentioned that I know there were some XM radio’s that had a cache so you could rewind… not sure if any AM/FM radios did that, but I’d think it would be pretty simple for a radio manufacture to implement.

  • @asudduth - Thanks for persisting with your suggestions despite the bug with the text not retaining when you mistype the captcha.

I think some TVs do have IR out. Or maybe that was me just wishing that too.
