What do you think of the Flip?
I get a ton of technology-related questions emailed to me. I'm not sure why it's taken me this long to realize this but it occurred to me that a lot of my followers could benefit from seeing some of these questions and their associated answers.
On that note, here's the most recent one I answered. If you like this idea, let me know and I'll continue to post future questions and answers.
Q: What do you think of the Flip?
A: I have an Flip Ultra HD and love it. But don't expect to do any zooming with it. It only has a digital zoom, no optical.
But since I got my Flip, I also got an upgraded iPhone 3G-S which also films video. The advantage of the iPhone is that I can upload straight to YouTube over the air. With the Flip you have to hook it up to a computer, transfer the files, then upload.
If you want YouTube quality video the Flip is fine. If you want quality video to watch on your television (home movies, memories, etc.) I'd stick with a full-fledged camcorder.

I’ve owned a Flip for a couple years now and have uploaded 200 videos to YouTube with it. However, the new Kodak Zi8 is where I’m looking for my next purchase.

@Adam - I’ll have to check out the Kodak Zi8. What do you like about it over the others?

The Kodak Zi8 holds way more than the Flip. If you use the expandable SD slot, you can get up to 10 hours of video versus the non-expandable Flip which only holds 1 hour. This limitation of the Flip is not good for concerts, parades or other longer events.
Now, the Flip is good for more intimate events like this coffee shop concert I shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdAL60UATJw
But the Zi8 just appears to be better with more storage and even higher quality.

@Adam - Not that Amazon reviews are the bible of gadget reviews but the Zi8 didn’t rate very well on Amazon.
I do like the removable memory card. And I don’t think the Flip shoots in 1080p.

@Adam - I wonder if the 60 fps really buys you anything. The human I eye can barely detect over 15fps as it is.
