Video of the day: Text in our movie theater and we’ll kick you out! [VIDEO]

I've previously shown my disapproval of people texting or otherwise using their smart phone in a movie theater while others are trying to enjoy the movie. But the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater has actually done something about it by implementing a "talk or text during a movie and we kick you out" policy.

This policy was recently put to the test resulting in an angry voicemail to the theater from one patron who was kicked out for texting during a movie. But instead of just dismissing the angry voicemail as another lost customer, the Alamo Drafthouse used the voicemail word for word as a public service announcement they now show before each movie.

Personally, the people at Alamo Drafthouse are my new heroes. Especially because as part of their policy, they give you your money back if they kick you out.

What do you think? Is Alama Drafthouse right to have this policy and to use the voicemail as a public service announcement before each movie? Watch the video below and then submit your feedback as a comment.

  • That’s hilarious!
And no… Good for the theatre they should use it, maybe not in kids movies but adult movies for sure!!!

  • I think it’s great - I wish all theatres would follow suit.  Anyone who gets hysterical over having to go a couple of hours without a phone or text needs help.

  • Cheers to them! I am of the belief that it is not necessary to be on your phone 24/7. I do not need feel the need to be in constant contact with people.

  • are you kidding me? throwing someone out over TEXTING?! how retarded can you get?

  • I wish all theaters had this rule enforced. Would definitely make the movie watching experience more enjoyable without worrying about someone yacking their jaws or using their darn phone!

  • If you need to text constantly, why are you going to a theatre at all? Be where you are, doing what you’re doing, not pretending to do something else while texting. It’s rude to text in theatres, at parties, during classes or meetings.

In a theatre, the light emitted by the cellphone during texting does disturb other people who are there to see the movie. I applaud Alamo for setting a fair rule and enforcing it.

  • As someone who has been disturbed by someone else texting, talking, and on one memorable occasion, someone playing games on their phone, I appreciate this policy. In a dark theater, that glowing screen attracts the eye and detracts from the movie.
