Use technology to find your stuff

Several years ago I had a great idea. I wanted to create a locator device that would keep track of my children while I was out in busy, public places (think the mall or DisneyWorld). My idea was to place a small wristband on my child and then use radio frequency (RF) to communicate between my child’s wristband and some kind of locator device that I would keep on me. Even better, I thought would be if the devices sounded some kind of alarm when the distance between my child’s device and mine exceeded some pre-set maximum.

Well, I never did get around to that idea but several others did. One that recently caught my eye was a device called the Loc8tor. This device can track up to 24 tags which are little devices only slightly larger than a paper clip. Put one on your keys. Put another on your remote control. And yet another on your child. The Loc8tor will track all of these devices up to 600 feet. It even has the alarm feature I wanted.

Now if it could only do something about those DisneyWorld ticket prices.
