Today was my birthday and I don't care what anyone else says, there's something special about being bombarded with "happy birthday" messages from every technology medium all day long. It's fantastic! Most of the action took place on my Facebook wall but others emailed me, texted me or sent me tweets on Twitter. I even got a personal happy birthday video from Brett Favre compliments of one of my friends who knows how upset I get when his name comes up these days. Love it! Receiving all of these wonderful birthday greetings also made me realize I don't pay enough… Continue reading...

I've previously shown my disapproval of people texting or otherwise using their smart phone in a movie theater while others are trying to enjoy the movie. But the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater has actually done something about it by implementing a "talk or text during a movie and we kick you out" policy. This policy was recently put to the test resulting in an angry voicemail to the theater from one patron who was kicked out for texting during a movie. Q: I was wondering if there's a free service out there that you can use to have text messages sent to. There are more & more companies using texting as a way to communicate coupons, sales and codes (ie Redbox). I didn't know of anything off-hand so I hit the Internet and started doing… Continue reading...

A friend and client of mine, Steve, shared this video with me and asked me to pass it on to as many people as I could. The video concerns texting while driving which up until today I thought had been covered enough. I couldn't be more wrong. To say this video gripped me would be the understatement of the year. From the moment it started I was drawn in, completely absorbed into the lives of the people telling their stories. And by the end, I had tears flowing out of both eyes. So now it's my turn. Please watch this… Continue reading...

I was driving behind a car today that had its tail light out. After following this car for several miles, I started getting the itch to notify the driver of the car of the problem. But I couldn't overcome the obstacles preventing me from doing this. For starters, I was behind the car on a single lane road. And even if I could get the driver's attention, there's no universal hand signal for "hey, your passenger side tail light is out." So being a techie, I started to look for a technology solution. Here's what I came up with. What… Continue reading...
