There are still people that think Twitter is only good for telling people what you had for breakfast. And while I may be interested in sharing my new favorite bagel flavor, I definitely have found uses for Twitter far beyond breakfast and bagels. I was recently in Best Buy purchasing a computer for a friend. After I picked out the computer and monitor I was escorted to a special checkout line. This special checkout line should be called the Best Buy up-sell line. When I arrived I was second in line behind an older couple. It took nearly 15 minutes for this couple to get checked out because of the 500 (yes, I am exaggerating) up-sells they had to respond to. Last night, something really cool happened. A storm blew through the greater Indianapolis area and knocked out the power in my house. No, that wasn't the cool part. The cool part was that I was able to catch up on my email for nearly an hour after the power went out using my laptop and my home Internet connection. Ok, so the laptop part is pretty easy to figure out. It has an internal battery and can probably run for 4-5 hours on its own before needing a recharge. Just when I thought that buying a new PC was no longer as daunting of a task for noobies as it used to be, I find out I'm wrong once again. A neighborhood kid that lives down the street from me is heading off to his first year of college this fall. He recently mentioned to me that he wants a new laptop but probably won't be getting one since his parents already have a desktop computer lined up for him.
