Just when I thought that buying a new PC was no longer as daunting of a task for noobies as it used to be, I find out I'm wrong once again. I discovered this when I went to Best Buy recently to purchase a new PC for my dad. Before I tell you my story, let me set the record straight. I'm not a walk in to Best Buy and pick a computer off the shelf kind of guy. I prefer to custom order all of my PCs and usually order them online. But like I said, this computer was… Continue reading...

A neighborhood kid that lives down the street from me is heading off to his first year of college this fall. He recently mentioned to me that he wants a new laptop but probably won't be getting one since his parents already have a desktop computer lined up for him. I think he already knew by the look on my face but I told him anyway that he needed to convince his parents to get the laptop. This is when he begged me to talk to his parents. Now you would laugh if the person behind the counter told you color television was included in your night’s stay. A little later the signs changed to “Free Cable” and eventually “Free HBO”. Now come on, what motel these days doesn’t offer cable television as well as some… Continue reading...

It never ceases to amaze me that advertisers assume that everyone knows every technical term there is to know. For instance, last night while watching my beloved Green Bay Packers lose the NFC Championship game, I saw a local ad for an electronics store trying to drum up interest in new widescreen televisions just in time for the Super Bowl. The gentleman in the ad proclaimed, “We sell televisions with full 1080p.” Now how many of you reading this know what 1080p means? Unless you have participated in Noobie’s Are You Ready for the Transition to High Definition Television? workshop,… Continue reading...
