This fall I don't plan on missing any of the hit television premieres or pilots. No more standing around the water cooler listening to everyone tell me how great a new show was that I didn't watch or didn't record. This year I've hired a television guru. I talk a lot about Amazon.com and how easy it is, even for noobies, to order products on their web site. But a recent series of events made me realize it may be too easy. I wanted to order a Slingbox Pro and have it delivered in one day. The only problem was I was running out of time to meet the shipping deadline and I was smack dab in the middle of a fantasy football draft. My wife came to my rescue. One of the core reasons I started Noobie was to help technology challenged people wade through all of the baloney (I'd like to use a stronger word but I won't) that's thrown at them from the technology media. Last night was a prime example. I was watching the Indianapolis Colts fall to the Chicago Bears on television which already put me in a sour mood (I may have grown up Wisconsin but I live just outside Indianapolis) when a new Comcast commercial aired. I did a double-take when I read my TiVo email newsletter today. I thought I was seeing things. It said you can now watch YouTube videos right from your TiVo. The newsletter included a screenshot of a familiar TiVo screen but with a new YouTube item. I didn't read another word of the newsletter. Instead I ran straight to my family room and brought up the TiVo menu. It was right around this time that I remembered that I had recently received the TiVo summer service upgrade on my TiVo HD DVR. I encountered my first challenge with my new cable-less, satellite-less, antenna only television setup. Burn Notice, a show that airs on the USA Network, kicked off its second season. The challenge was that I got hooked on the first season of Burn Notice but no longer received the USA Network. Worse yet, by the time I realized the second season had started, three new episodes of Burn Notice had already aired.
