In my last Mr. Noobie podcast, I talked about how I think that households recording their own television shows will soon be a thing of the past. I went to say how recording television programs will be replaced by on-demand downloads over the Internet. If you don't believe me that this trend is already happening, listen to what happened to me last week. I was watching a recorded show on my TiVo and saw an advertisement for the season premier of 'Til Death, a show I like to watch. I immediately knew I was in trouble since the ad mentioned…

This fall I don't plan on missing any of the hit television premieres or pilots. No more standing around the water cooler listening to everyone tell me how great a new show was that I didn't watch or didn't record. This year I've hired a television guru. Actually I should say enlisted the help of instead of hired because my guru doesn't actually cost me a dime. His name is TiVo and he's quite good. I did a double-take when I read my TiVo email newsletter today. I thought I was seeing things. It said you can now watch YouTube videos right from your TiVo. The newsletter included a screenshot of a familiar TiVo screen but with a new YouTube item. I didn't read another word of the newsletter. Instead I ran straight to my family room and brought up the TiVo menu. It was right around this time that I remembered that I had recently received the TiVo summer service upgrade on my TiVo HD DVR. I had read all of the highlights of…
