This morning I was listening to a DJ talk about a musician's upcoming album. And for the record for you baby boomers and beyond, by album I mean a collection of music not an LP record. When I heard this I got to thinking. What's the point of releasing an album these days? With today's digital technology and giant single song stores like the iTunes store, is there really any need to write 10-12 songs all at once? I have been grumbling about my iPhone a lot recently. Mainly because I have been having problems syncing it with iTunes on my computer. It's hit or miss whether my iPhone even shows up in iTunes when I connect it to my computer with a USB cable. And when it does show up, about 80% of the time, it disconnects in the middle of the syncing process. Worse yet, it recently disconnected during a software update (iOS v4.01) which left my phone in an unrecoverable state meaning I had to completely restore the phone to factory condition and rebuild it.… Continue reading...

You're probably growing tired of me telling you how wonderful TiVo is but I have actually come up with an improvement to TiVo that would make it even better. Today's Technology I'd Like to See (TILTS) is portable TiVo. Yes, I know you can already transfer your TiVo shows to portable video devices such as your laptop or an iPod Touch but I'm talking about simpler portability. When I was a kid I used to get together with my friends to compare and swap baseball cards. Oh how the times have changed. This past weekend I was visiting family and had a chance to visit with my teenage nephew. I noticed he finally got the iPod Touch he had been wanting for a long time. My wife asked me today if I knew where a recent CD I received as a gift was. I tried my best to recall its location but soon realized I had absolutely no idea where it was. This may make me sound unorganized but the truth is that I didn't really care where the CD was. Whenever I receive a new CD (usually as a gift since I buy almost all of my music digitally now) the first thing I do is plop the CD in the CD drive in my computer and rip the music into my iTunes library.… Continue reading...
