This morning I woke up at 6:15 am, anxious to cast my vote for the next President of the United States. Unlucky for me however, I had to wait another two and a half hours before I could actually vote. No, the voting line wasn't two and a half hours long. It was more that I had to get my kids out of bed and ready for school and couldn't vote until my kids were safely on the bus. Then I had a short drive to my voting site and about a 30 minute wait until it was my turn… Continue reading...

Most noobies can figure out how to take a digital picture. It's the part after that where the problems begin. Take for instance this common request I get. A bunch of people all armed with digital cameras get together for a kids' sporting event, say a soccer game. After the soccer game is over, the parents come up with an idea to put together a photo book from all of the pictures everyone has taken throughout the season. One of the things I kept trying to impress on the class participants was that Amazon.com sells much more than just books. To prove my point, I did a complete walkthrough of a purchase on Amazon.com while everyone watched. I took a big chance and asked class participants to… Continue reading...

Noobies are notoriously awful with password administration. Most of them use the same user name and password for every secure web site. Even worse, noobies love to use easy to crack passwords like the word password, their pet's name or some variance of their children's names. And the software companies aren't helping either. Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox have options to remember passwords for you. Most noobies are thrilled with this feature when they see the popup window appear on their screen asking them if they want their browser to remember their password. A simple click of… Continue reading...
