I have 4 televisions in my house. Since I dropped DIRECTV last spring, I have only been able to watch television on 2 of them. This is because I now require an antenna to pull in the analog or digital signals currently transmitting over the air and I only have 2 indoor antennas. 2 antennas, 2 televisions that I can watch. I have digital converter boxes for the other 2 televisions but they aren't doing me any good without an antenna hooked up to them. But at this point, I feel like I am spending too much on individual antennas… Continue reading...

One of the core reasons I started Noobie was to help technology challenged people wade through all of the baloney (I'd like to use a stronger word but I won't) that's thrown at them from the technology media. Last night was a prime example. I was watching the Indianapolis Colts fall to the Chicago Bears on television which already put me in a sour mood (I may have grown up Wisconsin but I live just outside Indianapolis) when a new Comcast commercial aired. A poll that ran on the Noobie web site recently asked visitors what technology they would like help with the most. Choices ranged from digital, high definition television to digital cameras to iPods and MP3 players. Not surprisingly the one that generated the most interest was digital, high definition television. Most people by now realize a change is happening on this date. Unfortunately, many of those… Continue reading...

Noobie just closed a poll that had been running on our web site for the past month. The poll asked how many text messages you send each month. The majority of people who responded, 42.31%, indicated they send 0-10 text messages per month. My guess is the respondents are closer to 0 text messages per month than they are 10. This majority of people visiting the Noobie web site not sending a lot of text messages didn't surprise me. What did surprise me was the 10.26% of respondents that indicated they have no idea what a text message is. This… Continue reading...

I still remember when DVDs first started hitting the market. I would go into my local Blockbuster store and there would be racks and racks of VHS movie rentals and in the corner, a small rack of DVD movie rentals. Most people in the store were still renting VHS tapes but every once in a while, a new technology adopter would pull a movie from the DVD rack. Over time, of course, the VHS racks slowly disappeared only to get replaced by brand new racks of DVDs. Some VHS tapes, mostly kids movies, survived but for the most part, Blockbuster… Continue reading...
