Let me ask you a question. How long has high definition (HD) content been available? I'm talking about high definition channels on our televisions and digital devices and Blu-ray discs for our DVD players. A couple of years? Maybe more? So why am I still paying more for high definition content vs. the standard definition (SD) counterpart? Take a look at these examples: DIRECTV Pay-per-view movie: SD: $4.99 HD: $5.99 DIRECTV Live Event (UFC): SD: $44.95 HD: $54.95 Redbox 1 night rental: DVD: $1.00 Blu-ray: $1.50 iTunes Movie Rental: SD: $3.99 HD: $4.99 iTunes Movie Purchase: SD: $14.99 HD: $19.99… Continue reading...

QUESTION: I'm all a twitter over the discussion on ditching my ISP. So - for the free standing Wi-Fi device, is there a fee involved? Also, I heard a conversation the other day about dropping your cable and going with the digital box, roof antenna for your local channels then using the Internet for anything else. Do you know how much more we could add to our retirement fund if we could drop Internet and cable? Lastly, how… Continue reading...

Instead buy these: AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable Continue reading...

Q: How can an old person like me, who remembers when TV was FREE, and you just turned it on and turned it off, (no recording junk--if you missed it, you missed it) get TV shows for free again? Do they make any TVs that pick up signals with an antenna? U-verse charges $199 to install, Comcast raises their prices and makes you hook up junk boxes back of the TV...it never ends. - Marian from Greenwood, Indiana A: Good news Marian! Not only do most televisions made today pick up antenna signals, they pick up them up digitally and,… Continue reading...

This morning I helped a client of mine get his new Blu-ray player configured to access the Internet so he could watch streaming movies from his Netflix account. Pretty cool stuff. While I was there he also asked me if I could help him learn how to use his DVR. But I told him flat out I couldn't help him with that. After a brief pause for comedic effect, I told him the reason was because he didn't have a DVR. In my client's defense, it can be difficult to distinguish a cable box from a DVR by looks alone.… Continue reading...
