Something funny has happened to me. I've slowed down on the number of Netflix DVDs I watch each week. In fact, I've had the same two Netflix DVDs sitting near my television for three weeks now. No, it's not because I don't want or have the time to watch them. Nor is it because I've grown bored with Netflix. And it certainly isn't because I enjoy paying $14 per month to let DVDs collect dust near my television. Fewer DVDs, more content The real reason is because I watch almost all of my Netflix movies on-demand on my TiVO HD… Continue reading...

I am ready to go on record. My TiVo should no longer be referred to as a digital video recorder (DVR). Instead it should be referred to as a digital video recording, movie streaming, Internet radio playing, podcast watching, photo sharing, swivel searching and pizza ordering device, or DVRMSIRPPWPSSSPOD for short. I'll let the guys up at TiVo marketing work on a catchier name but you get the idea. My point is this. When TiVo first hit the market, it was indeed a digital video recorder. TiVo has released a lot of new features over the past few weeks. First it was the ability to order Domino's pizza. Then it was Netflix video on demand. And now it's TiVo mobile for your cell phone. While I'd love to tell you that I breezed through the pizza ordering and video streaming, that isn't the case. One was a royal pain in the neck and the other a dream come true.… Continue reading...

I've been waiting patiently ever since the announcement just over one month ago. Netflix on TiVo has arrived! Today, this email was waiting in my inbox: As soon as I received the email, I ran into my living room and turned on the TiVo. Sure enough, there was a new featured item boasting the new Netflix on TiVo feature. I immediately selected it and was presented with options depending on whether or not I was already a Netflix customer. Since I am a Netflix customer, I selected that option and a new screen appeared with a giant four character code.… Continue reading...

Is there no end to how many new and cool features TiVo will introduce? Today TiVo announced a partnership with Domino's Pizza that will allow TiVo subscribers to order pizza for delivery right from their television. I've previously written about how Domino's pizza tracker is a hit with both of my sons. I can only imagine how they will react when I tell them we will now be able to order pizza using the television instead of the computer. According to an article on washingtonpost.com, the new pizza ordering service will begin this week and will be free to all… Continue reading...
