Technology doesn't always have to make your life more productive or more efficient. Sometimes it can just be plain 'ol fun. Take for instance my recent road trip to Florida with my family. I decided to have a little fun on the drive down and give my parents a state-by-state update of where we were on our trip. I did this by taking digital pictures on my iPhone of my kids waving or of noticeable landmarks in the area every time we crossed a state line and then emailing them to my parents with some sort of goofy subject line.…

I guess I should be used to surprising new technology developments by now but I’m not. My father has driven a Lexus car for several years and I have seen things on his car that I never would have thought anyone needed. Like cooled seats (why should the heated seats have all of the fun?), auto rain-sensing windshield wipers and laser cruise control. Yet here I am again thinking that digital cameras have pretty much maxed out on features, save the constant increase in megapixels each year. Wrong again. Sony is introducing a new feature on select digital cameras called…

Every so often, technology lives up to its hype. Here’s a perfect example. I recently returned from a 10 day cruise to the Panama Canal with my family in celebration of my parents’ 50th anniversary. Before we returned back to our homeland, my sisters and I presented my parents with a scrapbook that included digital pictures from all of the activities we did on board the ship. Q: What’s the difference between the iPod touch and the iPhone? They look identical. A: Although similar in appearance, there are some pretty significant differences between the new iPod touch and the iPhone. For starters, the iPod touch lacks the email, maps, stocks and weather applications found on the iPhone. The iPod touch also lacks a built-in camera. And even though both the iPod touch and the iPhone have built-in Internet browsing and YouTube, the iPod touch is much more limited in connectivity due to its Wi-Fi only Internet access. In other words, with the iPod touch, you must be…

Q: I want a new digital camera but cannot understand what all of the numbers mean. For example 1/1200 for shutter speed. All I know is that I have a toddler and am tired of my camera taking too long to actually take the picture and then she moves and I miss the picture opportunity completely. What do I need to look for? Why are the numbers for shutter speed so different and what is an average speed? A: This is a complaint I hear often when people talk about their digital cameras. They have their digital camera in hand…
