One of the perks I get out of running Noobie is the satisfaction of knowing I really helped someone. Sometimes it's helping someone pick out the right technical gadget. Other times it's making sure someone doesn't get the wrong gadget. And then there's the times when I'm just answering a general plea for help. I've received a lot verbal "thank-you's" and "you saved my life's" as a result of helping others but I'm not sure anyone has taken the time to actually blog about it. Until now, of course. A good friend of mine's wife was recently debating between purchasing… Continue reading...

For a few months now, I have been badly in need of a new computer. Mind you, when I say I need a new computer, my existing computer is probably still in more than tolerable condition for most noobies. But I'm a techie, remember? I need the latest and greatest. I live on the edge. I'm an early adopter. Which is why a 3-year-old computer running Windows XP simply won't do any more. The need for the best I typically spend 2-3 times more on my computers than the average Joe walking into Best Buy. Why? Because I am a… Continue reading...

I've followed all of the hype surrounding Microsoft's release of Windows 7. I've seen the commercials. I've read the technology trade articles. I've talked to friends who installed the beta and pre-release versions. But do you want to know something ironic? Until yesterday, I had never actually played with a computer with Windows 7 installed. Mainly because I have spent so much time helping others with their computers that I haven't taken care of my own. So I still chug away day after day with Windows XP (yes, I do have a laptop with Vista but only because I have… Continue reading...

I was recently in Best Buy purchasing a computer for a friend. After I picked out the computer and monitor I was escorted to a special checkout line. This special checkout line should be called the Best Buy up-sell line. When I arrived I was second in line behind an older couple. It took nearly 15 minutes for this couple to get checked out because of the 500 (yes, I am exaggerating) up-sells they had to respond to. I debated for a second standing behind the salesman and giving a thumbs-up for each up-sell I thought the couple should consider… Continue reading...

Today's post is a guest post by a good friend of mine, John Uhri, and is a response to a new voting poll posted on the Noobie web site. Be sure to chime in your vote on the latest Noobie voting poll question, "What is your opinion of Windows 7?" on the Noobie web site. Mr. Noobie tweeted: A poll on my opinion of Windows 7? Rock! I can't wait to vote and tell the world how much I like Windows 7. Unfortunately I was disappointed he didn't have a "I'm already a spazzed-out fanboy of Windows 7 and they… Continue reading...
