QUESTION: Do Mac desktops and laptops play Flash media? - J.C., Lafayette, Indiana ANSWER: I have a strong suspicion why you are asking this question. My guess is that you have an iPhone and are frustrated at its inability to play Flash content. And at the same time, you are wondering why no one ever complains about Flash content on traditional Apple computers such as the iMac or the MacBook. Well, the short answer is this. Flash content is 100% compatible with the iMac and the MacBook, with the appropriate software installed. So why does Apple allow Flash content on… Continue reading...

A friend of mine recently asked me how she could get her pictures off her iPhone and on to her computer. I quickly replied that the easiest method was to just email the pictures to herself. But then she told me she had a couple hundred pictures. Hmmmm... suddenly emailing the photos wasn't such a great solution any more. Q: How do I (seriously) tell my spouse to buy his own computer and to quit using mine? I've suggested it before but I think he thinks I'm kidding. He takes his computer use for granted and let's his 9 year old son play games on it after I have asked him not to. I have resorted to locking the computer with a password after the child incident. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - Name withheld upon request A: I think you've already taken the biggest first step. Securing your computer with a password. This will ensure your… Continue reading...

So the big news in the past few days has been about the IBM computer named Watson, taking on two of the best previous Jeopardy champions, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. In case you missed it, Watson, despite a few stumbles here and there, won by a landslide. Here's a short video excerpt from the second night of the match: If you can not see the embedded video above please use the following link: Jeopardy! (Season 27.23-2) - Ken, Watson, & Brad [Pt.1 of 2] Now, my first thoughts after watching Watson play Jeopardy were ones of utter amazement. I… Continue reading...
