Noobie just closed a poll that had been running on our web site for the past month. The poll asked how many text messages you send each month. The majority of people who responded, 42.31%, indicated they send 0-10 text messages per month. My guess is the respondents are closer to 0 text messages per month than they are 10. This majority of people visiting the Noobie web site not sending a lot of text messages didn't surprise me. What did surprise me was the 10.26% of respondents that indicated they have no idea what a text message is. This…

A little over a month ago I wrote about yet another useful application for text messaging. It was regarding Redbox's offer to give away one free movie rental every Monday for the month of May. The day I wrote that blog post, I signed up for the service with my mobile phone.
One month later I'm ready to report on how it worked out. Lucky for me, it won't take me long to review the promotion as I never received a single text message from Redbox during the month of May.

I've written previously about my experiences with both Blockbuster Total Access and Netflix. I've used both services and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Blockbuster Total Access allows you to exchange mailed DVDs in store, although they aren't very upfront that you can only do this a limited number of times per month based on what you plan you selected. Netflix combats the Blockbuster in-store exchange option by having lightning fast delivery times and offering unlimited Internet viewing for thousands of their selections. When I was done trying out each of these services I canceled my plan, not because I…

Here's yet another application for text messaging that has nothing to do with teenagers gossiping back and forth on their mobile phones. Redbox is offering consumers a free one-night DVD rental every Monday for the month of May. The catch? You have to give Redbox your mobile phone number and sign up for the Redbox SMS Alert Network (SMS stands for Short Message Service and for all practical purposes means text messaging). For those of you that need a quick refresher on the Redbox service, click here to read an article I wrote about them last September. Since I recently…
