I get a lot of questions from readers and clients asking me what the difference is between a notebook and a netbook. It's one of the reasons I posted the recent article The naughty and nice of netbooks. One of the disadvantages to netbooks, as mentioned in the article, is that many of them do not come with any kind of optical (CD or DVD) drive. While technically this is a disadvantage, it doesn't mean you can't work around it. In fact, my good friend Andy over at the Digitante has written his own blog post specifically teaching people how… Continue reading...

My wife asked me today if I knew where a recent CD I received as a gift was. I tried my best to recall its location but soon realized I had absolutely no idea where it was. I have complained about Blockbuster in the past, but this recent chain of events just became the nail in the coffin. Every Friday I do a movie night with my kids. Everyone has probably seen those giant bins of bargain DVDs at superstores like Wal-Mart. I saw one today that had the DVDs priced at 2 for $9.99. Usually these bins are full of DVDs that are of little or no interest to me but I am still drawn to them nonetheless. I guess my curiosity always gets the best of me. The 2 for $9.99 bin I saw today was no exception. I couldn't resist digging through the bin to see if there might be a hidden gem somewhere in the pile. Suprisingly, I didn't have to dig very far… Continue reading...

Is there such a thing as getting too many confirmation emails? A recent online purchase I made inclines me to say yes. I recently helped a Noobie Concierge client purchase an ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook (I told you these things were a hot item) along with a Samsung USB external slim DVD drive. At the time of purchase, the best deal on the external DVD drive was at NewEgg so I went ahead and placed the order there on behalf of my client. Since I have placed the order, I have received the following emails (subject lines listed… Continue reading...
