It's been a long time since I've done a new entry for my often well-received Technology I'd Like to See (TILTS) series but inspiration finally hit me. I just upgraded to a new GPS navigation unit and was happy to see that the estimated arrival time now adjusted itself to the destination's local time, much like the listed arrival times when you travel by airplane. As much as I welcomed this new feature, it created some confusion for me as I got closer to my destination on a recent trip to Chicago. The confusion lied in the fact that, once… Continue reading...

Back in July, I bought a new minivan for our family. It's the first car I ever owned that had satellite radio (SiriusXM) capability. A nice feature so I thought, but not free like FM radio. I had all but given up on anything else. The FM transmitters I tried were all… Continue reading...

A couple of my friends had their cars broken into at a networking event I attended today. This hit a little close to home for me for a couple of reasons. For one, one of the cars broken into was parked right next to me. I can't help but wonder if my car would have been next on the list if the thugs had just a little more time. Another reason was that my car was broken into about a year ago. I was fortunate at that time to have left nothing of value in the car, something I practice… Continue reading...

Imagine one day you hop in your car to drive to the grocery store to pick up a few miscellaneous items that you need to bake a batch of cookies. You haven't driven your car in 2-3 weeks because you are just coming back from a long vacation. No big deal, right? You put the key in the ignition, turn the key, put the car in drive and go about your way. Now let's pretend your car is a Windows-based computer and you've taken the same 2-3 week hiatus from using it. This time when you put the key in… Continue reading...
