Today I became a Groupon snob

  • Posted: August 08, 2011  Topics: Internet

Ritter's Frozen Custard Peanut Butter MountainSomething interesting happened this morning. My Groupon email arrived with an offer for a business that I absolutely love. The offer was $3 for $6 of frozen treats from Ritter's Frozen Custard.

And I love Ritter's Frozen Custard, especially one of their specialities called the Peanut Butter Mountain.

I didn't bite

But I didn't bite on the offer. I just let it go. Let it expire.

Why? Because I was having one of those crazy out-of-control days and the thought of having to take 5 minutes out of my day to log in to the Groupon site, buy the offer, share the offer on Facebook (I always do) and then print the coupon just seemed like too much work to save $3 on some frozen custard.

Oddly enough, last time I checked, over 4,000 people had already taken the offer.

So there you have it. I'm a snob because a $3 coupon wasn't worth the hassle to me.

Are you with me or against me on this? Let me know below in the comments.

P.S. If you are reading this on the day I posted it and you don't share my opinion, there's still time left to get the deal!

  • You don’t have the app?  Took me less than 30 seconds. You wimped out. Or you’re still on your diet & used the “5 minutes” as an excuse ;)

  • I do have the app. But if I’m at my computer processing email, I tend to just make the decision about the Groupon right at my computer. I’m not on my diet but I should be. Maybe my conscience is trying to tell me something. :)

  • I agree. $3 isn’t worth the hassle or the risk that I may not use it before the expiration date. (Oh, and I am on a diet ;-)

  • I *am* on a diet, and the Greenwood location is nowhere near my home, but took advantage of it because I knew a)they needed/wanted more traffic at that location, b)I would be near there the next time I took my kids to the ped or orthodontist, c)free custard/ice cream is always welcome.

Lo and behold, we had a rush visit to the Ped the next day.  Kid was miserable with poison ivy on 90% of her face & custard was a soothing potion (for a short while).

  • I don’t bite on the Groupon offers either.  Just another way to get us to spend unnecessarily on stuff we usually wouldn’t.  And we wonder why the Government can’t control it’s spending.

  • It would depend on where I was. If I was at work, (like I am right now, but it is slow) yeah, probably would have taken the time. At home, it would depend on what I would rather have been doing. Often on the weekends I never even look at my email, so there you go. Priorities, yeah, that’s it, priorities.

  • I got the offer… didn’t seem like a hassle to me, and half off ice cream is what we live for at my house ;)
now on a similar issue, for mail-in-rebates I won’t mail them in unless its $10 or more… some of the ones that are $2-$5 I won’t hassle with it.

  • @asudduth - agreed!  However I just took one for processing - it cost me $7 to ship the ‘trade-in’ - I’d better get the $50 rebate FAST!
