TILTS: Rain sensor for your convertible

I can not claim credit for today's Technology I'd Like To See (TILTS). That credit goes to a good friend of mine, Regina Miller, from Geek in Pink. She passed along the idea to me via Facebook and I loved the idea so much I decided it had to become a TILTS.

Before I present Regina's idea, I need to give you a little background. Regina drives a sporty red convertible and despite the ever cooling (and ever changing) October weather here in Indiana, she still can't resist driving with the top down on the car.

And now without further ado...

For the record, she later claimed she was joking. Yeah, I'm not sure I believe her either!

Disclaimer: Technologies presented in the Technology I'd Like To See (TILTS) series are based on my original (and sometimes delirious) thoughts. I present them here to the public only because I can not afford to implement any of them myself. If you steal borrow one of my ideas and end up filthy rich because of it, please remember where you got the idea and throw a little love my way. Something like a BMW or a big fat check would do just fine.

  • Unfortunately I don’t have a convertible (if someone wants to send me a Chrysler Sebring Convertible respond and I’ll give you my address;)) but I’d think the best TILTS would be an automatic top of some kind and when it sensed water/rain it would close the top for you.  Of course you’d want to be able to disable this (like you can with automatic headlights) just in-case you knew it might falsely sense something or you know you weren’t in a place where the top could be put up. (low clearance, etc) - also I’d assume if you were actually driving it wouldn’t be automatic either.

  • Patric, you & I know Regina.  There’s no way she was kidding.
