There’s more than one way to charge an iPod

Someone recently asked me if there was a way to charge her iPod without having to connect it to her computer. My answer was yes as long as you are willing to spend $30.

The $30 will get you an Apple USB Power Adapter which allows you to plug your iPod USB cable into the iPod on one end and the power adapter on the other end. Then the power adapter can be plugged into any standard electrical outlet.

Apple USB Power Adapter for iPod/iPhone

In days of old, the power adapter was included with a new iPod. No such luck any more. But I still think the power adapter is worth the money when it comes to a matter of convenience.

The convenience comes in a couple of flavors. The obvious one being that you don't have to mess around with connecting cables to your computer or disabling the automatic iTunes sync process that starts when you connect your iPod to your computer. Another convenience comes when you are traveling. It's a lot easier to plug your iPod power adapter into an electrical outlet in a hotel than it is to lug around your laptop.

So I ask those of you with iPods. Do you charge your iPod by connecting it to a computer or by plugging it into an electrical outlet using a power adapter? Leave a comment below and let me know.

  • Sounds right to me...I charge my iPhone mostly using my laptop. But, when I travel I use a wall plug. I also rely on my car charger quite a bit...another $30 investment.

  • @Stephanie Ah yes, the *true* cost of an iPhone: The iPhone itself, the service plan, a case, a power adapter and a car charger! Throw in a few paid applications from the iTunes Store and it doesn’t take long to see why Apple is rolling in it right now.

  • Sounds right to me...I charge my iPhone typically using my laptop. But, when I travel I face some problem. I’d like to buy this one for me. Thanks.
