There’s a difference between “Southeastern” and “South Eastern”
I was 10 minutes late for a client appointment today and I have technology to blame for it. Ok, ok, ultimately it's my fault no matter what but it makes me feel better to blame it on something other than me.
While getting ready to leave for the appointment, I decided I would finally trust the built-in Google navigation on my Thunderbolt and let it route me to my destination. So I launched the app and used the "speak address" feature to input the address I was headed to—on Southeastern Avenue.
Little did I know the navigation app interpreted my spoken address as South Eastern Avenue, which is definitely not the same as Southeastern Avenue, at least not in Indianapolis. And at exactly two minutes before my scheduled appointment time I figured this out.
Thankfully, my client understood my dilemma when I called her to explain why I was going to be 10 minutes late. But she didn't waste the opportunity to snicker at "a technology guy who can't figure out his GPS."
I totally deserved it.
