The number one computer-related complaint
Anyone want to take a guess at the number one computer-related complaint I hear from my customers? If you guessed "my computer is slowwwwwwwwww" give yourself a point.
I wish I could tell you I had a straight-forward solution every time I heard this complaint but I don't. The reason is that it depends on too many things. Like how old the computer is and how much memory it has. Or how many applications are started up in the background every time you log in.
These variations on diagnosis always kept me from running any sort of automated tool whose job is to speed up your computer. That and the fact that I just didn't trust these types of applications.
Change of heart
But my opinion has changed thanks to my recent purchase and download of the Optimize2 program from PC Pitstop. I know what your thinking. I just told you I don't trust these types of applications so why the change of heart?
Well, the answer is simple. Guess whose computer is performing unbearably slow now? If you guessed mine give yourself another point.
See, I don't like to experiment on other people's computers, especially on their dimes. Which is why this was the perfect opportunity for me to experiment on my own computer.
And I'm happy to report that PC Pitstop's Optimize2 program performed brilliantly and made a noticeable difference in my computer's overall speed. Is my computer as fast again as the day I bought it? Not even close. But it's much better now than it was before I ran Optimize2.
Great program, if you can find it
There was a downside, however. The PC Pitstop web site was not the easiest of web sites to navigate. In fact, I often got confused as to what I was supposed to click on next. And like I always say, if a techie is getting confused what's going to happen to the noobies?
But if your computer is slow and you're feeling brave, go ahead and give the Optimize2 program a try. A 1-year subscription to the software is only $29.99 so the world won't end if it isn't up to par with your expectations after it runs its course. In fact, it can probably only do you good.

Is there anything equivalent for a Mac? My Mac Mini has begun running so slowly - I dwell now in the land of the never ending rainbow wheel (even for something as simple as trying to scroll). Hope there is! Thanks!

@Southern Gypsy: I don’t believe PC Pitstop works on a Mac but I have heard people say to go to the MacFixIt web site, http://www.macfixit.com/index.php. There is a tab across the top for Utilities as well as other useful tips for Macs. Hope this helps!

Speeding up a PC just needs some tweaking. You only need to know the right things to do, no need for any expensive upgrades or software.
