The fastest way to scroll back to the top of a web page
Ever since I put together Noobie's 100 iPhone Tips eCourse, I've been really spoiled by tip #42:
iPhone Tip #42: Jump back to the top
When viewing a long web page in Safari, it often takes a lot of swipes to get back to the top of the page. Next time, try this instead. Touch the bar across the top of the screen (where the clock is) and watch your iPhone instantly scroll back to the top of the page. This tip works in most of your apps too!
We hope you are enjoying Noobie's 100 iPhone Tips!
What about my desktop computer?
So why did I say I am spoiled? Because I use this tip so often on my iPhone that I forget I can't do the same thing on my browser on my computer. Well, I should say I previously couldn't do the same thing because I recently found the perfect equivalent.
It's called the Scroll To Top Button and is available in the Chrome Web Store as an extension to Google's Chrome browser. In noobie terms this means it will only work if you are using Chrome (not Internet Explorer or Firefox) as your web browser. Although, I'm sure there are equivalent plug-ins for those browsers as well.
Once you install the Scroll To Top Button (which takes only a few seconds), you will see a large button appear near the top right of your Chrome browser any time you scroll down a long web page (like your Facebook news feed). One click of the button and voila, you jump right back to the top of the web page.
You may miss this in the documentation but you can also hit Alt-T or the Home key on your keyboard to jump to the top of a web page or Alt-B or the End key to jump to the bottom of a web page.
Now the only reason I'm spoiled is that I never have to scroll back to the top of a web page ever again!

Love this. It seems so-o reasonable that you should be able to jump back up—I thought this capability already existed and that it was just one more thing I hadn’t learned how to do :)

Linda, I agree. It seems like something that should be built right into the browser.

Or you could just use Ctrl + Home. That’s what I do using Firefox.

Michelle, that works in Chrome too! Thanks for the tip!
