Some “other” uses for those open USB ports

Most computers these days come with a minimum of three or four USB ports. On top of that, USB ports can be expanded through USB hubs to chain upwards of 128 different devices.

The average computer user probably only needs one or two USB ports, thus leaving an additional one or two lonely USB ports on their computer. What can those open USB ports be used for? Well, how about something fun? Like the USB Beverage Chiller from CoolIT Systems. Simply plug it in to one of your computer’s open USB ports and set your favorite beverage on the plate. The Beverage Chiller will make sure it keeps your beverage a cool 45 degrees.

For the noobies out there wondering where the Beverage Chiller gets its power, it does not need a separate power supply. Instead it grabs its power through the USB connection itself, borrowing power from your computer.

So kick back and enjoy a cool beverage next time you surf the Internet. Just don’t spill that beverage on your computer–there’s no USB device available to clean that up!
