Save time typing in those web site addresses

  • Posted: September 08, 2006  Topics: Internet

When the World Wide Web first became popular, most Internet browsers required that you had to type in a full Internet address in the address bar. For example:
http://www.noobie.com/. More recently, the Internet browsers got smarter and added the http:// part for you allowing you to just enter www.noobie.com in your browser.

Well, here’s a quick tip for you Internet Explorer users. If the web site you are trying to go to starts with www. and ends with .com, just enter the part in between the www. and the .com and hit Ctrl-Enter on your keyboard.

Try it with me. Open up Internet Explorer and in the Address window type just noobie by itself. Now find the Ctrl key on your keyboard, usually located at the bottom left or bottom right of your keyboard, hold it down and hit the Enter key. Internet Explorer will fill in the rest of the web site address for you and take you directly to that web site. Magic!

Note this tip only works for PC users running Internet Explorer. It also only works for .com address. Don’t try it with .org, .net or any other domain suffix.
