Review: MOTOACTV Fitness Tracker/Smart Music Player
Today's blog post / review is a guest post from my wife, affectionately known as Mrs. Noobie. A while back I became overwhelmed with devices to review so I asked my wife to take charge of testing the MOTOACTV Fitness Tracker/Smart Music Player. Here's what she had to say.
Recently, I was able to take the MOTOACTV Fitness Tracker/Smart Music Player for a little test drive and here is what I discovered.
First impression, I had no idea what this little, lightweight black iPod shuffle looking thingy could do for me except that I knew it had to do with fitness (probably the picture of a man running on the front of it is what gave it away).
After quickly unwrapping it and reading a bit of the documentation (yes, I read the product literature) I discovered that in the palm of my hand was a GPS fitness tracker with a built in smart MP3 Player made by Motorola.
My experience
Although I was not able to try every feature out in the short time I used the device, I did manage to get in a quick work out and here is what I experienced.
The MOTOACTV charges quickly and, although you can clip it to your shirt, it also comes with a wrist band to wear like a watch.
Also included are comfortable over the ear bracket ear buds. I loved these because I always have trouble keeping in the plain ear buds so having something over the ear helped me concentrate more on my workout and less on fiddling with those darn ear buds.
The user interface was very easy to use and in no time I was able to play some music that came pre-loaded and was off and exercising.
While I did not receive any text messages or phone calls during my workout, the MOTOACTV supports Bluetooth so you can stay connected even while you're sweating off the pounds.
Post-workout analysis
At the end of my workout I reviewed the MOTOACTV stats which showed me my pace, heart rate and GPS route. The device also tracked which songs kept me more active and categorized those into a fit song list for future use.
With my first workout results now stored as a benchmark, I could track my workouts online with ease. This feature can be really helpful for people training for a race or just wanting to see how their fitness levels improve over time.
Overall I enjoyed my quick little trial run. If I had more time as well as some additional sensors I would have liked to try using the MOTOACTV for a biking exercise. Maybe next time (hint, hint Mr. Noobie™).
