No more looking under your car seat for loose change

I read an article on the IndyChannel.com web site regarding new parking meters being installed on some of the Indianapolis streets. What’s the big deal about new meters? Well, they accept debit and credit cards for starters. I think this is a great move as I am always the one scrounging around my car for loose change to fill the parking meter. I think noobies, however, may be slightly more hesitant to adopt this new technology. I say that because the new meters aren’t necessarily tied one to one with a parking spot. In some case, there is one meter for ten parking spots. To use it, you swipe your card at the central meter and get a receipt which you put in your windshield for proof of payment.

I think there is just enough confusion here that it may be a tough sell for some of you out there. Not to mention, the good old days of finding a parking spot with time still on the meter from the previous person are out the window. Now the city gets to double-bill time on their meters. We’ll see. The city has the meters on loan for 90 days at which time they need to make a decision on whether or not to keep them.
