Let the world know that you digg Noobie

  • Posted: July 24, 2008  Topics: Internet

I've had a lot of people tell me in person that they enjoy reading my blog. Some even go as far as to say that they feel like I am talking to them when they read my blog. This always makes me feel good. But today I am going to tell you what would make me feel even better. You might even say I'm asking a favor of you.

If you read my blog posts on the Noobie web site at www.noobie.com/whatsnoo you may have noticed a yellowish button at the bottom of every blog post that says "Digg" on it. You probably never paid a lot of attention to this little button but as little as it is, it can have a big impact on Noobie's awareness on the Internet.

Introducing Digg

Digg Submit

The button is part of a service called Digg. Digg compiles all of the news (including blog posts), video and images on the Internet that people really like. Or put another way, the web pages that people digg.

The beauty of Digg is that web page popularity is determined not by one person but by the entire Internet community which includes you and me. All that is required is a free Digg account. Once you have your free Digg account, you can start digging web pages that you like. If other people digg the same web page, that web page increases in popularity and if dugg (that's the past tense of digg) enough times, it will show up on the "Popular" pages of Digg's web site.

That's where the real magic (and flow of traffic) begins. Instead of just digging all day you can actually go to the Digg web site to see what other people are digging and thus, see what is popular on the Internet right now.

Digg 7 diggs

Showing up on the first few pages of Digg's "Popular" page can bring a ton of traffic to a web site. This is where I come back full circle to that favor I mentioned.

Can you digg it?

If you really enjoy one of my blog posts, could you do me a favor and Digg it? The only hassle is signing up for the free Digg account. Once you have done that, it's just a matter of clicking the yellow Digg button at the bottom of any blog post that you have enjoyed. This will take you to the Digg web site where you will need to fill out a few details about what you are digging before you can submit the story.

Admittedly, digging a story is not the noobiest of things to do on the Internet. It does require the free Digg account and it does require you to fill out a few pieces of information before something you submit is officially dugg. But I know I have varying levels of noobieness with my readers and I will take any diggs I can get. I'll even walk anyone through the entire process if they email me or call me when they are ready to digg.

So the next time you enjoy something I write, tell the rest of the Internet community how much you really Digg it.
