It’s report card time and I need your grade
January has come to an end and I've successfully released four consecutive Weekly Wrap-up with Mr. Noobie™ videos. These videos mark the start of the "new me" where I've abandoned the dry, teleprompter approach and replaced it with a softer, more humorous approach.
So, it's time for me to ask? What do you think of the videos? Do you like them? Do they make you laugh? On a grading scale of A, B, C, D and F, what would your average grade for my videos be?
If you need a little memory refresher, I'm embedding and providing links for all four videos below.
Meanwhile, here's some things I'm still working on improving:
- The audio quality. I've ordered a wireless mic set that should arrive next week. I hope this makes a tremendous difference in the sound quality.
- The backdrop. When the time is right and I find the right space, I hope to replace the bland green wall behind me with a nice white backdrop.
- The lighting. Lighting is all over the map in my videos mainly because I shoot at different times of the day. Again, my hope is to have my own mini studio complete with soft umbrella lighting. Baby steps.
- The name of the show. I'm thinking about changing the name of the show to "The Lighter Side of Tech". What do you think? Do you like this name better than the current "Weekly Wrap-up with Mr. Noobie™" name?
- The video titles. I've stopped using "Weekly Wrap-up with Mr. Noobie™" for the video titles and started using an extracted phrase from the video in order to catch more people's attention.
I would love to hear any and all of your feedback. Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think and give me an A, B, C, D or F grade. Or maybe somewhere in between two grades. Your comments will help make next month's videos even better. Thank you!

Hi Patric,
The last one was the most entertaining. I score you a B. The desk setting is more relaxed looking than the plain wall. I must admit that I didn’t look at them each week. The title needs to have a CTA (call to action) to catch my interest. i.e. “Video contains a free .......(tip, coupon, book, etc)” implying that if I watch it (action) I will receive the free whatever. How about “Best free stuff of the week?” Or “Weekly Freebies”?

Comlimentary “B+”
Consider this an “off the top of my head” thought more than a critique and how I feel an “average” viewer accepts your presentations..
Transparency and WYSIWYG come to mind in following you. That means I respect you too much to nitpick.
Agree with Jean that CTA is a consideration for you.
Background color is a coinflip...tv reporter/newscaster eons back when we didnt have full crews and you most often shot your own FILM, not videotape lol, and most often “cut and pasted” (edited) it yourself. All I know is u don’t want anything graphically disturbing your subject to be in the background.
As for changing clip name..NO; Mr.Noobie is your brand name so don’t dilute it. I see or read Levi’s I think jeans....likewise Mr. Noobie is associated with tech advisor.
As a radio talkshow host idea was to get to the meat ASAP and yes this is “nitpicking” but sometimes i feel you become George Romneyesque and overtalk a subject matter.
On that note the closing could be a one time use of “I’m Mr. Noobie, also known as Patrick Welch.”
Again though, hard to find real faults in anyone as open and forthright as you.

You’ve got a B+ from me, too!! I love it that you’re loosening up now and showing more humor. I would have given you an A but the audio could use a bit of work!!! I know you’re working on that, so I’m looking forward to the improvements! :D :D :D

My laptop’s speaker’s tinny, so sound.....
The blank wall is understandable, but pretty dull.
“I can’t get app”: either title or punch line, but not both.
A good, solid B.

Fantastic feedback everyone! Thank you! And good news… my green screen is set up and ready to go. I’m just waiting on a backorder of a few umbrella lights and then my videos should really start to sizzle! Hoping I can get straight A’s in the second semester :)

Heather!
Sorry I’m so late on this (I’m catching up on emails), but I’ll give you an A-! I always watch the Wrap-Up, even if it’s a few weeks later, and they crack me up! Sure, there are a few things that could be polished, but I actually prefer that the videos look like they came from a friend with his take on things. The content is more important than the ‘sheen’, and that’s why I continue to watch them! Great job...keep it up!
