Is text messaging faster than Morse code?
Last Saturday night, I was waiting for a concert to begin and I noticed a teenage girl in the row in front of me with an iPhone. She was sending text messages, presumably to one of her friends, every couple of minutes. I found myself fascinated at how fast she could construct a text message, especially using the iPhone touch screen which many people believe slows them down. And to think she was typing this fast using only her thumbs!
This got me to thinking about a video my Dad shared with me recently. The video is a clip from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and shows a fun contest where text messaging goes head to head with 140-year-old Morse code. The idea is to see who can send a message faster--the guy sending the message via text message or the guy sending the message via Morse code.
Who do you think would win? Watch the video below to find out.

@Dianne: Glad you liked the video. I’m still convinced the texter could win if he had a cell phone with a full keyboard instead of just 0-9 keys. In fact, I’d put my niece up against that Morse code guy any day!
