iPod touch and iPhone not as similar as you may think
A: Although similar in appearance, there are some pretty significant differences between the new iPod touch and the iPhone. For starters, the iPod touch lacks the email, maps, stocks and weather applications found on the iPhone. The iPod touch also lacks a built-in camera.
And even though both the iPod touch and the iPhone have built-in Internet browsing and YouTube, the iPod touch is much more limited in connectivity due to its Wi-Fi only Internet access. In other words, with the iPod touch, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi source to surf the Internet or YouTube. With the iPhone you can use both Wi-Fi and AT&T’s EDGE national data network.
The iPod touch does have, however, a few new goodies that the iPhone doesn’t have–at least not yet. The first is access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store so you can purchase and download music right from your iPod Touch without being connected to a computer.
The second is a Starbucks Music application that allows you to purchase and download the music you are listening to in select Starbucks stores. So the next time you are sipping your latte at Starbucks and hear a song you like, just fire up the Starbucks Music application and minutes later that song will be on your iPod touch.
Lastly, there are a couple of hardware related differences between the iPod touch and the iPhone. One is that the iPod touch lacks the built-in speaker found on the iPhone. Another is that the iPod touch does not have the recessed headphone jack like the iPhone, which upset many iPhone owners when they discovered their existing headphones did not work with the iPhone.
