I lose weight or you gain money
Two months ago, I wrote here on my blog that it was time to lose weight or lose money. I talked about a web site called Stickk.com and how it can be used to put your money where your mouth is when it comes to goals and commitments.
As some of you may remember, I committed to losing 13 pounds in 9 weeks. For each of the 9 weeks, I had to weigh in and compare my weight against my goal weight for that week. If I missed my goal, my credit card would automatically be charged $10 (an amount of my choosing when setting up the contract) and sent to my sister (a recipient of my choosing).
Well, for any of you nay-sayers out there that don't believe a system like this can work, let me tell you, it does. Period.
Here's my proof:

In fact, I plan on using this system for a second phase of weight loss. This time slightly less agressive but with more money on the line.
And to mix things up a bit this time around, I am going to select a new person as the potential recipient of my money for a new commitment contract. This person will be hand-selected by me from the list of people who leave a comment on this blog post giving me encouragement for my next phase of weight loss.
Free money? It could be. If selected, you will have to create a free account at Stickk.com and I will have to fail 1 or more weeks during the committment contract. And I already know it will be more difficult for me this time around.
What have you got to lose? Nothing. So leave me an enouraging comment, tell me why you should be the one I select and let's get rolling!
Your comment must be submitted by 12:00pm (ET) on Thursday, August 27 to be considered for selection as my new recipient of stakes.

What an “accountability partner” and great idea! It does put your money where your mouth is. I love the concept and see how it could be a real motivational incentive to get you to your goal.

I wasn’t going to leave a comment, because I think you’ll meet your goal. It’s like signing up to win nothing.

@Steve - Exactly! And you can use it for any goal (business or personal), not just weight loss.

@Michelle - I’d like to think I won’t miss any weekly check-ins either but man, I barely made it the last two weeks of this one. That’s why I want to scale it back a bit this time. My theory is to keep moving forward by losing weight each week but not pressure myself so much that I get discouraged and quit.

I’ll bite, but I would struggle with how to go about it. Part of me would want to make you go for runs with me. Part of me would want to feed you cheesecake my wife just made.
I officially withdraw from this competition.

Pick me! I’m rooting for you to succeed (having fought a small weight problem myself all my adult life), and won’t be disappointed if I don’t win any money.

Glad to hear you were successful all weeks and that the lake visit didn’t throw you off your goal!!!

I feel funny rooting for your weightloss, with the chance to win money if you don’t make it....I hope you do! Keep on going and doing well!!! --cjh
