Gmail unveils a brand new look
Several years ago I made the decision to abandon Microsoft Outlook as my email client in favor of Gmail, a web-based email service. And I've never once looked back.
In fact, I think Gmail keeps getting better sans the few occasions they change something that feels minor to them that takes me a couple days to adjust to. But overall, it's pretty much a no-brainer to me to select Gmail as your main email service.
The only real gripe I've heard from my clients over the years is that they don't like Gmail's user interface. For me though, it's never been a problem because I choose function over form when it comes to email. But I understand how Microsoft Outlook set a standard many years ago that Gmail has spent a lot of time catching up to.
Perhaps that time is now as Google just released a major facelift to its Gmail interface. The short video below details all of the changes.

The funny thing is, these changes have stirred up a lot of negative comments from die-hard techie Gmail users. You know, the kind that just want everything to stay the same... forever. But I'm betting these changes will be welcomed with arms wide open from noobie Gmail users.
What's your opinion? If you are a Gmail user and have switched to the new interface, what do you like about it? What do you hate about it? Leave a comment below to let me know. Oh, and be sure to tell me whether you are more of a noobie or more of a techie.

Mr Noobie—you can probably answer if my number 1 gripe about any web-based email has been addressed by Google. (or anyone for that matter)—my biggest complaint has always been that you can not drag attachments over to an email window and they just attach. thats almost exclusively how I attach things. It makes it so beneficial especially when you have multiple things to attach.
Additonally I’m not a big fan of conversation view (threaded view). Of course this is a personal preference, not a missing feature.

I still use both. I save important emails to Outlook where I can make folders and save to my heart’s content. I love Gmail as a service. It works great----but I hate the conversation thing and the way is wants to save everything forever.

asudduth - I’ve never tried dragging attachments into Gmail but I did find this blog entry on Google’s site which makes it look like it’s now possible. http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/drag-and-drop-attachments-onto-messages.html
As for the threaded conversations that is one of my favorite features of Gmail. I loathe getting 10 separate emails in my inbox that all are just replies to the same conversation.

I’m new to “gmail” and it is quite different from my old email. Not sure if I like the “threads” type emails. Probably should find a tutorial on how to use it.
