Even a techie can be a noobie

Something funny happened to me today. I needed to call a company to get some information so I checked out their contact page on the web site. The number was a toll free number. Since my cell phone bill has grown out of control as of late, I decided to make the call using the good ‘ol fashioned telephone. I picked up the phone dialed ‘866′ along with the rest of the phone number and listened for the ring. No ring. Still waiting. No ring. So I hung up and tried again. Same thing. No ring. I finally realized that I had never dialed the ‘1′ before the ‘866′. The ‘1′ is not required on a cell phone and I had completely forgotten it was still necessary on a standard telephone. Oops.
