Download Firefox today and make history

I did my part today to try to break a world record. A world record for the most software downloads in 24 hours. The software I downloaded was Firefox 3, the long-awaited upgrade to the Firefox browser.

If you would like to participate in this world record attempt just read the excerpt below from the email I received earlier today and click the link to download Firefox. But you better hurry. You only have until about mid-day on Wednesday, June 18, to meet the deadline.

Are you ready to make history? Are you ready to set a World Record? Today is Download Day. To become part of the official Guinness World Record you must download Firefox 3 by 17:00 UTC on June 18, 2008, or roughly 24 hours from now.

If you are only interested in world records, you can stop reading here. Otherwise, read on for my two cents on the Firefox upgrade process.

The upgrade

Downloading Firefox was a snap and took just a few minutes. The upgrade process went smooth with only one warning telling me I had to close my existing Firefox browser before the installation could continue.

Once the installation was complete, I ran Firefox and it immediately recognized all of my existing plug-ins and found new Firefox 3 compatible versions for all of them. I was impressed at how easily it discovered and installed the new plug-ins.

As for the actual new version of the Firefox browser, I just finished downloading it and don't feel I've used it enough to give any kind of decent opinion. I have, however, read a lot about it before its release and if it lives up to all of the hype I am going to be one happy Internet-browsing camper.
